FireFox Running Slow?

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

My firefox has been really crappy lately. In fact, it is using up a ton of resources and keeps making my computer slow down to a crawl. When I type I have to wait for my computer to catch up. Remember when Firefox used to rock? Now that I’m using Windows 7 Firefox sucks. Hmm. I wonder if Microsoft is doing that on purpose? Anyway…

I did find a few resources on how to fix your slow firefox and its laggy performance. Here’s a great link:

I have also put together my own solution if your firefox is running slowly. This fix usually works on all Windows OS from Windows 98 and up. It’s really simple and is one the fastest fixes available for crappy Firefox performance:

Step 1 – Click on the Start Menu
Step 2 – Find the Blue Icon that is shaped like an “e”
Step 3 – Click on this icon (twice might be necessary – otherwise known as a double-click)
Step 4 – Enjoy your “fixed” web browser.

Yahoo Crawler Attempting to Crawl Weird Pages

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

As a system admin I monitor the hits and robots as they crawl my websites. I’ve been getting some odd hits from Yahoo Crawler with the bot searching for non-existent URLs like this:

Periodontal_Disease.cfm?fp=idlvx%2BsYUOs0Jknv503vyDyezi7ch
ASmcecx59HdIiFkha7oy8xYKwGiVkuRWrzF9Vt6KbLxRjS2el6PG3kbXnt

Anyone else seeing something like this? Any ideas why Yahoo! would be attempting to crawl a page like this?

Windows 7 Ultra on a Macbook Air

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

As most of you know Windows 7 was released and there has been a ton of hype about how much improved it is.  I happen to agree.  In fact, I’m currently using Windows 7 over my beloved Linux because it’s just easier to work with out of the box.

I purchased a MacBook Air and quickly wiped the OS and installed Windows 7 just to see if I could get it working properly.  It took a little work, but it turned out quite nice.   The battery life could be better, but it isn’t horrible.   I wouldn’t recommend trying this if you aren’t pretty damn savvy on the computer.  There is some partition stuff involved and various other issues you might run into that could be really problematic if you aren’t around another computer to do some googling for troubleshooting.

For those of you that hear the nay-sayers screaming that the MacBook air isn’t powerful and doesn’t have a CD Rom, etc.  Ignore them.  It’s ultra portable and extremely sleek.  I used my CD rom once to install  Windows 7 and immediately afterwards to install some Warez.   You can either share a CD rom over the network or use thumb drives.   The MacBook runs Windows 7 extremely well and with bootcamp all of the function keys and lighting on the keyboard work just fine.

One issue.  No print screen button!
